Hotel hopping in Cannes

By Jackie Reau, editor/publisher

Hotel hopping and lobby gazing is a sport at Cannes. The paparazzi are not allowed in most hotels but we found most hotel security is lenient with iPhones and smaller cameras to capture the entrance and departure of celebrities. While we didn’t see any actual celebrities, it was a fun afternoon of people watching.

The luxury hotels are within walking distance of each other and located along the main boulevard called the Croisette, which sits on the Mediterranean coast.

InterContinental Carlton Cannes

58 Boulevard de la Croisette, 06400 Cannes

Built in 1911, the Carlton as it’s known by locals, is the celebrity hot spot for the Cannes Film Festival. The iconic hotel was also featured in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1955 classic film "To Catch a Thief." Pro tip: snag a table in the Carlton Bar and enjoy the people watching with a glass of rose. May I recommend the Carlton salad with lobster?

Hotel Barriere Le Majestic Cannes

10 Boulevard de la Croisette, 06400 Cannes

This glitzy hotel lobby is surrounded with large armchairs and beams decorated with gold leaf to sample their signature cocktails. The Bar Galerie du Fouquet's Cannes is the place to be on the Croisette, to see and be seen, as overheard in the lobby.

JW Marriott Cannes

50 Boulevard de la Croisette, 06414 Cannes

The J Dub as it’s affectionately referred to is the home to film industry executives and networking receptions. The outdoor patio sits on the Croisette and offers a beautiful view of the beach. It’s also close to the red carpet entrance so there is a buzz in the air as black Renaults wiz into the gated area.
