The 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards, Presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association: Sunday, January 8, 8-11 p.m., WLWT-NBC
Thanks to the work of Film Cincinnati over the past year, there will be many Cincinnati links to the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards this year (five to be precise).
In the Best Actress, Drama category, Natalie Portman is up for her portrayal of Jackie Kennedy in Jackie. Ms. Portman has Cincinnati connections as her grandparents, Arthur and Bernice Stevens lived in Hyde Park up until Mrs. Stevens’ passing in October 2014. Side note: Natalie Portman is NOT related to Sen. Rob and Jane Portman.
Ryan Gosling is up for Best Actor, Comedy, for his role in La La Land. You’ll recall that Gosling co-starred in George Clooney’s Ides of March, the 2011 political drama that was filmed in Cincinnati.
In the Best Supporting Actress category, Nicole Kidman has been nominated for Lion. Kidman and Colin Farrell spent part of their summer shooting The Killing of a Sacred Deer set for a 2017 release.
SJP is up for Best Actress, Comedy for HBO’s Divorce. Sarah Jessica Parker, who lived in Cincinnati with her family from age four until she was 12, regularly gives props to the Cincinnati Ballet, Cincinnati Symphony and the School for the Creative and Performing Arts for her early introductions to the arts.
And finally, who can forget all of the John Travolta sightings here while he was in town last summer filming The Life and Death of John Gotti, which is due out in 2017. Travolta is up for Best Supporting Actor for his role as OJ Simpson’s attorney Robert Shapiro in The People vs. O.J. Simpson.
