CincyDance! to hold open ballet audition for all tri-state third graders

Sunday, December 16 12:30 p.m. Registration, 1:30 p.m. Audition

Cincinnati Ballet, 1555 Central Parkway

Cincinnati Ballet is expanding our CincyDance! program and offering an open audition to ANY third-grader in the Tri-State area with a desire to dance at Cincinnati Ballet. CincyDance! aims to increase the racial and socio-economic diversity of students in ballet and offers them the opportunity to learn both the discipline and the joy of dance in a safe, structured and supportive environment. Following the audition, select dancers will be chosen to join Ballet Foundations, a tuition-free, 20-week program beginning in January. These one-hour classes will teach the foundations of dance and prepare students to enter the Main Division of Cincinnati Ballet’s Otto M. Budig Academy. Once dancers complete Ballet Foundations, five students will be selected to receive lifetime Academy scholarships.

In its 23-year history, CincyDance! has reached nearly 20,000 students in more than 30 participating schools. Each fall, professional faculty from Cincinnati Ballet provide six-week dance workshops for third grade students at selected schools in the Greater Cincinnati area. Through these weekly one-hour presentations students are introduced to dance basics, specifically ballet.  CincyDance! develops leadership skills, confidence, and increased self-esteem. Students in the CincyDance! program show improvements in academic performance and school attendance, as well as the physical benefits of dance training including coordination, rhythm, and creativity. Based on student demographic estimates provided by school administrators, 88% of children participating in the In-School Residency portion of the program are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Currently, CincyDance! reaches thousands of children in participating school each year.
