Summerfair Announces Financial Awards to Local Artists
Four area artists are the recipients of the Aid to Individual Artists (AIA) awards, the annual juried award from Summerfair Cincinnati, one of the oldest continuous art fairs in the country.
The AIA award goes to artists to assist with funding classes or programs to learn new ideas or techniques, materials for a new medium, expanding a work area or any other needs the applicant may deem necessary to continue their artistic works. Each selected artist receives an award of $3,000.
“Each year it gets more difficult to choose deserving artists to receive this award,” said Jayne Utter, managing director of Summerfair. “It speaks to the quality of young artists and faculty in our area that so many see the value in expanding their experience in the arts.”
This year’s award recipients are:
- Anne Huddleston, mosaic artist
- Kevin Muente, painter
- Alice Pixley Young, sculptor
- Mark Wiesner, assemblage sculptor
The artists received their awards at the October Membership meeting from Summerfair Vice President for Awards, Donna Binzer.
The 51st annual Summerfair Cincinnati will be held June 1-3 at Coney Island.
