More than 14,000 votes were cast by the community in choosing the Flying Pig mural design which ArtWorks will create as part of their upcoming summer program. The selected artist is local graphic designer, Sara Cormier, and her winning design “Dream Big & Fly High.”

Sara is a Cincinnati native and the owner and Creative Director of Cormier Creative, where she designs full-time. She is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning also went through ArtWorks CO.STARTERS, a nine-week business development course which provides resources for artists like Cormier to turn their passions into thriving businesses.

The mural design, which was chosen by community vote from 20 entries, will be painted on the west side of the Hyatt Regency Hotel on the corner of Fifth & Elm Streets, downtown. The project is funded by Flying Pig Marathon Founder Bob Coughlin and his wife, Jeanne, in association with Paycor and the Flying Pig Marathon.

“The whimsical nature of Sara’s design will create a lasting legacy for the Flying Pig Marathon and the vision of Bob Coughlin to create the event, which is now the 15th largest U.S. running festival,” said Tamara Harkavy, CEO & Artistic Director of ArtWorks. “Our apprentices and artists will love bringing this design to life as one of our mural projects this summer.”

The Flying Pig mural project is a gift from the Coughlin’s to the community in honor of the 20th Anniversary of the Flying Pig Marathon, set for May 4-7, 2018. More than 40,000 participants are expected for the 2018 weekend of events. Registration is now open for all events at FlyingPigMarathon.com.
