Indianapolis for March Madness

By Jackie Reau, Publisher/Editor

Dear NKU Fans,

Take the trip to Indy on Friday!

Take the advice from this Ohio University alum who took the trip to Nashville five years ago where my beloved Bobcats, a then #13 seed beat Michigan, a #4 seed in the opening round of the 2012 NCAA tournament. You never know what may happen! It’s called March Madness for a reason.

So, our Travel Column is here to help. I made a few phone calls to buddies who live in Indy and surfed a few sites to offer some travel advice.

The Norse will tip off on St. Patrick’s Day at 9:40 p.m. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis.

PS to #BBN: You know the NCAA travel drill and don’t need any advice from this mid-major scribe!

Tickets
There are several secondary ticket sites that are offering tickets including the NCAA’s partner, Primesport. At the time of publishing, tickets started at $112 and were available in the upper level of the Field House. A few lower level seats behind the basket were available starting at $180.

Remember this one ticket is a Session Ticket so you will see both evening games with Dayton vs. Wichita State taking the court before the UK vs. NKU game.

Another reputable secondary source, Stubhub.com has a few dozen available tickets available starting at $104 per ticket in the upper bowl.

Getting There
It’s an easy two-hour drive over to Indy about 120 miles from NKU’s campus to the basketball arena.

You might also want to consider taking the Megabus over to Indy. With tickets starting at $15 one-way, you can leave on Friday at 12:30 p.m. and arrive to downtown Indy by 3 p.m. Depending on the outcome, you may want to stay until Sunday’s game. Megabus is an easy, comfortable way to travel and a ticket is usually cheaper than one night of parking at a hotel.

Staying There
VisitIndy.com, the official travel portal of Indianapolis, has collected hotel information and rates for the NCAA tournament on their site. Overnight rates begin at $80/night up to more than $300/night and it all depends on proximity to Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Celebrating There
NKU Fans will want to head to Punch Bowl Social, 120 S Meridian Street, Indianapolis, IN 46225, on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. for their pep rally.

UK will host its pep rally on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Tin Roof, 36 S. Pennsylvania Street.

Additional sports watering holes to consider from an Indy Insider:

  • Yard House, Circle Centre Mall, 15 West Maryland Street
  • Scotty’s Brewhouse, 1 Virginia Avenue
  • Kilroy’s, 201 South Meridian Street

May the best Kentucky team win on Friday!
