Beginning April 13, Allegiant will begin new service to Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) twice a week from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

Sarasota is a culture center on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, home to some of the best beaches in Florida, including Siesta Key. With this new flight, you can be on the beach in Sarasota (with a stop at Publix for nibbles and necessities) in less than three hours and enjoy three of my favorite things to do in the area.

Ca’ d’Zan, the home of John and Mable Ringling
The home of John Ringling, the circus king and the art collector, and his wife, a couple from humble mid-western origins, Ca’ d’Zan (“House of John”) stands as a testament to the American Dream of the Roaring Twenties. Inspired by and designed in the Venetian Gothic style of the palazzos that ring the Venice canals, this dazzling palatial mansion perfectly captures the splendor and romance of the Italy.

Phillippi Creek Oyster Bar
Lunch or dinner at Phillippi Creek Oyster Bar is a casual affair with fresh seafood to sample daily. Grab a picnic table on the water (you might see manatees swim by) and order a feast of oysters or try the stuffed grouper with blue crab meat.

St. Armand’s Circle
If it’s cloudy or you are looking for a leisurely day to shop and dine, spend it at St. Armand’s Circle home to charming restaurants (may I recommend Café L’Europe) with European flair and boutiques offering a variety of high fashion options.

Staying There
The Siesta Key Chamber does a great job of aggregating places to stay based on location and number of guests from hotels, condos (which are plentiful, especially with beach access) and homes for rent. Visit their website to learn more about these options.
