Hot to Go

Debuting in 1970, Frisch’s Hot Fudge Cake holds fast its Gen X roots – dark and slightly intimidating at first glance, but sweet and softer than it might like to admit at its heart.

There’s no better time to celebrate this iconic – and delicious – treat than on Friday, July 25 for National Hot Fudge Day.

Frisch’s first began serving hot fudge sundaes and layer cakes in the 1950s, but it wasn’t until 1970s that the culinary magic happened: layers of chocolate cake, vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, whipped topping and, of course, a cherry on top. The Frisch's Hot Fudge Cake instantly became a fan favorite.

Invented in the Frisch’s kitchen, the dessert quickly cemented its place as the restaurant’s top-selling treat. It remains a staple on menus across Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, beloved for its nostalgic flavor and unmistakable presentation.

Over the years, Frisch's Hot Fudge Cake had embraced trends. In 2016, the Peppermint Ice cream Hot Fudge Cake was introduced for the holiday season. A red velvet cake option was added in 2018. Frisch’s also caught PSL fever, offering a special pumpkin spice ice cream cake featuring caramel sauce, at one point.

Celebrate National Hot Fudge Cake with a slice of perfection at any of the 31 Frisch's locations in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. (Greater Cincinnati locations at left.)

Since it’s on Friday, why not make a weekend of your celebration!
