Having a Light Touch

Coordinating the art, artists, and ever-changing technology of BLINK is a Herculean task. The country’s –maybe even the world’s – largest immersive light and art event demands a combination of logistical understanding, adept communication skills, and rah-rah enthusiasm for the region. Luckily, Leslie Mooney has plenty.

Mooney stepped into the role of BLINK’s executive director in July 2025. With less than a year to learn the ins-and-outs of the job, work on the fundraising, and tackle the artistic decisions, she hit the ground running and hasn’t stopped.

She is a seasoned nonprofit and cultural leader in Cincinnati, with deep passion for the arts and a strong commitment to community impact.  Before BLINK, Mooney served as the executive director of the Clifton Cultural Arts Center, spearheading the building of its new home. She moved to Cincinnati nearly two decades ago, working in development at the Underground Railroad Freedom Center. Her career has been defined by civic connection through storytelling, placemaking, and inclusive arts and cultural programming – what BLINK is all about.

As we all have so much to do and our attention spans seem to be getting smaller and smaller, we wonder what local folks you obsessed with at the moment.

“Current Events” is a feature where we ask Cincinnati People about their current favorite places and things, plus how they’re enjoying spending their time right now. And of course, what's their go-to advice to share with others.
